My first encounter with professional massage and bodywork was, ironically, not long after I received my MA in Economics and Foreign Languages. I was about to change jobs and had booked a 90 minute massage at an old swim hall in downtown Oslo, Norway, where I am from. It was snowing outside, the room was warm and comfortable, and the therapist did a phenomenal job at introducing me to what ultimately became my second career. Not only did she give a great bodywork session, but she also carefully explained the therapeutic benefits of massage and bodywork.
It was years later, when my daughter started Kindergarten, that I enrolled in the Therapeutic Massage Training Institute in Charlotte, North Carolina which has been my home since 1997. After 600 hours of quality and holistic instructional hours, and 17 months of schooling, I received both the National Board Certification and the North Carolina State License for Massage and Bodywork Therapy in 2007.
Being a massage and bodywork therapist is so much more than a job - it's a lifestyle and a passion. Fusing the technical and therapeutic knowledge with the nurturing, intuitive, and energetic components, is a creative challenge I welcome every day. Being able to provide the gift of therapeutic massage and bodywork is the most rewarding job I could wish for.
